Mount Bullen is a 5,978-foot-elevation (1,822 m) mountain summit located at the western edge of the North Cascades, in Snohomish County of Washington state. It is situated 20 mi (32 km) east of the community of Arlington, Washington, in the Boulder River Wilderness, on land managed by Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Nearby neighbors include line parent Whitehorse Mountain, 1.44 mi (2.32 km) to the northeast and Three Fingers, 1.84 mi (2.96 km) to the south. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains into headwaters of the Boulder River. Topographic relief is significant as the southeast aspect rises 2,000 feet (610 meters) above Bullen Lake in approximately one-half mile, and the west aspect rises 4,200 feet (1,300 meters) above Boulder River in two miles.

Algeria has known many empires and dynasties, including the ancient Numidians (3rd century B.C.), Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, over a dozen different Arab and Amazigh dynasties, Spaniards, and Ottoman Turks. Under the Turks, the Barbary pirates operated from North Africa and preyed on shipping, from about 1500 until the French captured Algiers in 1830. The French southward conquest of Algeria proceeded throughout the 19th century and was marked by many atrocities. A bloody eight-year struggle culminated in Algerian independence in 1962.

Algeria, officially the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It is bordered to the northeast by Tunisia; to the east by Libya; to the southeast by Niger; to the southwest by Mali, Mauritania, and Western Sahara; to the west by Morocco; and to the north by the Mediterranean Sea. Algeria has a semi-arid climate, with the Sahara desert dominating most of the territory except for its fertile and mountainous north, where most of the population is concentrated. Spanning 2,381,741 square kilometres (919,595 sq mi), it is the world’s tenth largest nation by area, and the largest nation in Africa. With a population of 44 million, Algeria is the tenth-most populous country in Africa, and the 32nd-most populous country in the world. The capital and largest city is Algiers, located in the far north on the Mediterranean coast.
