Briefer than any other book of the New Testament, 3 John is a personal note in Koine Greek from ‘the elder’, traditionally identified with John, to a believer named Gaius. Written in the first century AD, it praises Gaius for his hospitality to traveling missionaries and censures Diotrephes, an ambitious local figure who refuses to receive them.
