Mary Wells Slaughter, Fort Steilacoom, Vol. XXII, No. 4, Winter 2005 (historicfortsteilacoom.org) Mary Wells Slaughter was the daughter of John and Jane Wells. She had two younger siblings named Fred and Carrie. In 1837 they moved to Fort Gatriot/Point Huron. Mary’s family built a store and sawmill there.
