In 2017, the park was named in honor of Mr. Marion W. ‘Bud’ Homan. Bud Homan volunteered to maintain the open space parcel for over 45 years, devoting significant care and commitment to the property on behalf of neighbors and the community as a whole.

Aldous Huxley took the name of one of his most famous works, The Doors of Perception, from this work. The Doors of Perception, in turn, inspired the name of the American rock band The Doors.
