It [Messier 66] was discovered by French astronomer Charles Messier on 1 March 1780, who described it as “very long and very faint”.
It [Messier 92] was inadvertently rediscovered by Charles Messier on March 18, 1781, and added as the 92nd entry in his catalogue.
