- I had previously observed that, in practical matters, it is sometimes necessary to accept highly uncertain opinions as if they were beyond doubt. However, since I wanted to focus solely on the search for truth, I believed the opposite approach was needed. I decided to reject as absolutely false any opinion that had even the slightest reason for doubt, to see if anything remained in my beliefs that was completely beyond doubt.

The Skykomish River starts its trio of large, frothy waterfalls with a thunderous cascade in a steep sided gorge, right next to the highway. Data I encountered (I think from the WDFW but I can’t remember) placed the height of the falls at 22 feet. I recently measured it at 18 feet, but that was at high flows when much of the falls were flooded over.
