On June 22, 2025, the United States Air Force and Navy attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran as part of the Iran–Israel war. The Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant, the Natanz Nuclear Facility, and the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center were targeted with fourteen GBU-57A/B MOP 30,000-pound (14,000 kg) bombs carried by Northrop B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, and with a separate barrage of Tomahawk missiles fired from a submarine. The attack, which was given the codename Operation Midnight Hammer, was the United States’s first offensive action of the Iran–Israel war, which began on June 13 with surprise Israeli strikes.

Memex is a hypothetical electromechanical device for interacting with microform documents and described in Vannevar Bush’s 1945 article “As We May Think”. Bush envisioned the memex as a device in which individuals would compress and store all of their books, records, and communications, “mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility”. The individual was supposed to use the memex as an automatic personal filing system, making the memex “an enlarged intimate supplement to his memory”. The name memex is a portmanteau of memory and expansion.

The Strait of Hormuz (/hɔːrˈmuːz/ Persian: تنگهٔ هُرمُز Tangeh-ye Hormoz listen, Arabic: مَضيق هُرمُز Maḍīq Hurmuz) is a strait between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It provides the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean and is one of the world’s most strategically important choke points. On the north coast lies Iran, and on the south coast lies the Musandam peninsula, shared by the United Arab Emirates and the Musandam Governorate, an exclave of Oman. The strait is about 90 nautical miles (167 km) long, with a width varying from about 52 nmi (96 km) to 21 nmi (39 km).
