- Seattle, Washington sits at one of the most beautiful spots in the United States. Occupying a narrow isthmus between the Puget Sound and Lake Washington, it is the biggest city in the Pacific Northwest, with 780,000 people in Seattle and over four million people in the metro area. Seen from above, carpets of evergreen trees, pristine blue waters, and snowy white mountains surround the downtown’s metallic skyscrapers, earning the city its nickname The Emerald City.
- Goose Island Natural Area Preserve (dnr.wa.gov)
This small sandy accretion island in Grays Harbor has supported a large colony of nesting seabirds including gulls, brants, long billed curlew-and historically-Caspian terns. Brown pelicans utilize the island after breeding season. Following submersion during severe winter storms, the shifting dunes on this island have been re-colonized by vegetation and nesting birds as the ecosystem rebuilds.
