- Spire Mountain (Spire Peak) (summitpost.org)
Spire Mountain is a rugged, imposing, 6213’ (1873’ prom.) summit located eight miles E/NE of Index, WA, and three miles SE of the old mining town of Galena. True to its name, the summit ridge is comprised of a series of ‘spires’, which make a striking impression when viewed from most vantage points. Along with nearby Gunn Peak, Spire Mountain can be considered one of the monarchs of the Wild Sky Wilderness, and is every bit as majestic as its neighbor to the south. The first recorded ascent of Spire Mountain occurred in 1934.
