- Peshastin Pinnacles (wa100.dnr.wa.gov)
There is more to this peaceful little state park than meets the eye. At Peshastin Pinnacles, towering sandstone spires ideal for rock climbing reach 200 feet into the air, catching the attention of drivers on nearby U.S. Highway 2. The pinnacles have names like Dinosaur Tower and Martian Slab, and are accessible via a network of steep hiking trails that weave their way through this climber’s playground. It is impossible not to wonder how these giant slabs formed and why they jut out of the hillside here. Spend a sleepy afternoon relaxing in the park’s picnic area while taking in sweeping views of the Wenatchee River valley, or unpack your gear and clip into a bolt to start a rewarding climb. For those traveling between Leavenworth and Wenatchee, the park and its unique geology provide an enjoyable detour.
