Dedicated to a certain Theophilus, Luke is the third gospel of the Greek New Testament, traditionally attributed to Luke the physician and companion of Paul, and written in cultivated Koine Greek in the first century AD. The longest of the four gospels, it preserves the parables of the good Samaritan and the prodigal son and gives particular attention to the poor, to women, and to outsiders.
