- Shoreline — Thumbnail History (historylink.org)
The City of Shoreline is one of Seattle’s closest suburbs. Located immediately north of Seattle’s city limits, the area was settled first by homesteaders and soon after by vacationers. Over time a community formed, and although Seattle’s boundaries have pushed farther north, Shoreline has preserved its autonomy and, in the 1990s, incorporated as a city in its own right.

- Hamlin Park (wta.org)
Hamlin Park, the largest and oldest park in the city of Shoreline, is named for the pioneering Hamlin family who had a homestead in the area in the late 19th century. During their tenure, the Hamlins logged much of the area, but the forest gradually returned. Today many second-growth trees here are over 100 years old. Mostly you will see cedars and firs, along with a few madrones and a variety of other deciduous trees.
- Twin Ponds Park (wta.org)
This Shoreline city park offers good trails that pass through areas of low forest and circle two small lakes. Hikers may prefer the approach from the west side via the Trail of the Cedars. The route described here begins at that trailhead but gets to every part of the park, including the eastern trailheads, so you can easily modify your route if you prefer a different starting point.
