- The Olympic Wildlife Area is primarily found in Grays Harbor County, with the Anderson Homestead unit located in Clallam County. The wildlife area has approximately 1,480 acres of land, and its estuary and wetland habitats support a diversity of wildlife including big and small game species, songbirds, as well as native and federally endangered fish populations. This wildlife area includes a wide range of important fish and wildlife habitats including riparian, estuarine, freshwater wetland, old-growth/mature forest, upland meadow, and coastal prairie systems.

The siege of Jerusalem (c. 589–587 BC) was the final event of the Judahite revolts against Babylon, in which Nebuchadnezzar II, king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, besieged Jerusalem, the capital city of the Kingdom of Judah. Jerusalem fell after a 30-month siege, following which the Babylonians systematically destroyed the city and Solomon’s Temple. The Kingdom of Judah was dissolved and many of its inhabitants exiled to Babylon.

The Anderson Homestead Unit includes meadows and riparian habitat and provides foot access to the Bogachiel River. Roosevelt elk and black-tailed deer use the meadows year round, especially early morning and late evening. Bald eagle, osprey, and dipper are common along the river and numerous songbirds use the unit’s diverse habitat. The unit is managed as elk winter forage habitat and riparian habitat.

The Olympic Unit consists of several parcels within the Wishkah River Valley. These areas are popular during hunting season and used throughout the year for hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Various streams wind their way through lush rain forests, and salmon and other fish species occupy the rivers. Although the purchase of the area was intended for elk management, upland bird use has also increased and various other species of wildlife use the habitat.

The Wynoochee Mitigation Unit, located along the Wynoochee River, is popular during hunting season and used throughout the year for hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. Since 1992, WDFW has managed this land owned by Tacoma Power as elk winter forage habitat as mitigation for the loss of habitat from the Wynoochee dam and reservoir.
